I like to write poetry
Have done since I was small
and my poem about colours
graced the wall
of my headmaster’s office

I like to write poetry
even though I have no idea
what I’m doing
and everything comes out trite
and stiff and a little bit cringe

I like to write poetry
ever since I realised
I could write
about toad girls and cherry pits
and ant-decapitating flies

I like to write poetry
even though I should be
working, not
procrastinating and playing
with words on my mobile phone.
